Fernweh is the German word for wanderlust, that deep and stirring pull toward far-off places you have yet to discover. It is the feeling that sends you searching for somewhere new, somewhere that feels both far away and right at home. That is exactly what we set out to create. Fernweh is a collection of comfortable vacation rental cottages where everything you need for the perfect adventure is already waiting. Whether you are exploring downtown Gruene, catching a show at Whitewater Amphitheatre or Gruene Hall, tubing the Guadalupe, or simply soaking in our natural surroundings, we deliver comfort, familiarity, and hotel-like standards at every turn.

Our story

Born from a feeling

Fernweh was created by a group of New Braunfels-loving people who wanted to give travelers an approachable, comfortable way to escape city life and experience the natural beauty of the Texas Hill Country. For years, our families came here to float the Guadalupe and Comal rivers, share long meals under the stars, and slow down. We wanted a place where others could do the same, a retreat that feels far away yet right at home. We found it along River Road, surrounded by towering cypress trees and the steady flow of the Guadalupe. Here, Fernweh became more than a name. It became our way of welcoming you into a story you will make your own.
